Our Project Manager position will be assigned to Fidelity Engineering & Construction Inc.’s primary office and various project work sites, reporting to the General Manager and President. This role will provide the opportunity to take an active involvement in the management of exciting heavy civil projects in a quickly growing company, building contracts for municipal, federal and provincial clients all over Ontario. Some of the Project Manager’s responsibilities will include the direct management of multiple contracts that are simultaneously under construction, resource allocation, proposal preparation, scheduling, negotiations and billing submissions and cost control.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Track productivity, costs, cash flow and progress on projects
  • Maintain excellent stakeholder relationships with clients, subcontractors, engineering, and internal partners
  • Prepare contract schedules, perform progress updates and submit to client, including related documents.  Experience in Primavera P6 scheduling software
  • Perform quantity take-off from construction drawings as required
  • Coordinate and manage quality assurance, control and non-conformances
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to review the quality of completed work
  • Negotiate and issue subcontracts and major purchase orders to reach profitable agreements and monitor their progress and schedule
  • Responsible for approval of payments to subcontractors, suppliers etc.
  • Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate authorities
  • Acquire equipment and material and monitor stocks to timely handle inadequacies
  • Liaise with and inform management on project schedule
  • Monitor progress and assist in the preparation of job cost and cash flow information
  • Assume a key role in project close-out, including coordination, preparation and production of as-built design drawings, archiving of documents, deficiencies and warranty work
  • Maintain files and correspondence on active and completed projects
  • Provide technical support to field staff
  • Coordinate training for workers requiring specialized licences and certifications, including determination of safety procedures for the handling of dangerous goods, and ensure compliance with transport regulations
  • Assist in the preparation, review, maintenance and approval of Engineering drawings and related documents
  • Gather field information and assist in the preparation of project bill of materials
  • Assist in the preparation of detailed change order estimates
  • Prepare claim, change proposal, requests for information and various other proposal documents
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and internal departments
  • Prepare for, attend, engage in and occasionally lead client/consultant/subcontractor meetings
  • Other administrative duties and assignments as per supervisor’s direction
  • Be an ambassador of the company both internally and externally
  • Must be self-motivated and work well with minimum or no direct supervision

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • A strong commitment to construction safety
  • Candidates with experience managing Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) highway & structural contracts would be preferred.
  • Bachelor of Engineering degree preferred, having a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering an additional asset
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PEO) would be considered an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the civil construction industry is an asset
  • Two to three years of complex road and bridge civil construction project management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) skills
  • Strong Interpersonal skills in communicating with teams of varying size
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to resolve project disputes with no management assistance
  • Ability to manages issues Owner, Authorities and stakeholders
  • Ability to identify threats and opportunities, including the mitigation, realization and evaluation of risks.
  • Team player who is organized and flexible
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Excellent presentation skills considered an asset
  • Thrive in a fast paced-environment and works effectively with shifting priorities and rapid change
  • Effectively examines events, issues and problems to generate optimal solutions in a timely manner
  • Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, MS Word and Excel
  • Competent in Primavera P6 scheduling software
  • Competent in CAD design software (AutoCAD, Civil3D, etc.)
  • Experience in construction estimating and associated software considered an asset
  • Valid full class G drivers license
